Dakino International Film Festival’s 20th edition

1x232 Dakino International Film Festival’s 20th editionDakino International Film Festival moves to Brasov (190 km north of Bucharest), starting next year, Dan Chisu told the news conference organized before the Festival’s opening ceremony.

‘The Festival’s life has been decided on, and I can inform you, almost certainly that the Dakino Film Festival’s name is ’20+1′ and it will move to Brasov, starting 2011. The Brasov Local Council showed us much understanding. We realized that the film festivals staged in the big cities of Romania, not necessarily in Bucharest, are better supported and the people living there, are probably given fewer choices and the audience is less numerous, in Iasi (east) or in Cluj (central), for instance. We realized that Bucharest is a city busy enough with events,’ Chisu said.

‘We have staged this Festival for 20 years, and it has witnessed both good and bad moments. It knew an extraordinary development from its first till its tenth edition. Since its 13th edition the festival entered a shadow cone because it became a festival of short films only, and the other big film festivals of Romania came up, and here we are celebrating the Festival’s 20th anniversary, although the latest editions have not been the most glorious…

For both the good and the bad things, we can boast that our festival is the only one that celebrates 20 years,’ Chisu stressed. The Dakino International Film Festival’s 20th edition takes place in Bucharest-based cinema halls like Patria, Elvira Popescu and the New Cinema of Romanian Film Director, inside the Romanian Peasant Museum, on Nov 22-27.

The most recent film by the UK film director Danny Boyle, ‘ 127 Hours’ was on at the Patria Cinema Hall, on Monday, after the Festival’s opening gala, and for the first time in Romania. Romanian film professionals namely film directors, photographers, actors, critics, distributors, whose names have been, one way or another, related to the Festival, over the past 20 years, are attending the event.
Likewise during the Dakino International Film Festival’s 20th edition, Goran Bergovic and the Funeral Orchestra give a concert at the Palace Hall Bucharest, on Friday Nov 26.
